The Gem Show

Many people have asked me where I get my stones to make jewelry or who cuts the stones for me... I thought this quick little post might provide some insight....

I just recently went to the Franklin Gem Show in Franklin, NC.  My 9-5 job has a tent set up outside every year.   It was hot, it rained and we were very busy... But I was able to make it out of our tent for about an hour on the third day when it was slow to get a few things I needed for Caro Designs.

This show, I didn't need too much. I am pretty stocked on supplies, but ended up getting a couple strands of stones and some chain for jewelry.  I also picked out some rocks for my display (which I also sell if anyone is interested!) - some Amethyst and Quartz, some natural Agate slices... A fellow vendor gave me a piece of raw Pyrite.

If you've ever been to a wholesale trade show, you know how overwhelming it can be... Especially if you've never been to that show before.  There are hundreds of dealers, thousands of options and thousands of customers all in one place.  The first day is always the busiest.  Everyone wants first pick of the stones, beads etc.  But, through all the chaos, it is quite fun!  You run into friends, see your favorite vendors and shop for new and unique pieces and supplies.  All in all, it's a pretty cool experience.  If you ever get the chance you should definitely go!

So what will happen to these pretty strands of gems that I purchased?  The Black Spinel has a diamond finish- they grab the light beautifully!  Definitely using them for earrings, of course. I'm thinking I'll use the chunky Quartz points for simple necklaces and maybe even some key chains.  Stay tuned!
